Get Involved! Join the Races! Everyone is welcome!

Join the Main Event at Rideau PaddleFest- the Voyageur Canoe Races!

Two 34′ long Montreal-style canoes compete over 200 meters, in a straight line, between 2 buoys. The winners of each of the heat progress towards being crowned the 2025 10th Anniversary Grand Champion Team.

You don’t have to already be on a team, there are “pick-up” spots available. Our expert organizers will place you where you are needed. If you want to race against or beside friends and family, please note that on your registration form. There is a FREE t-shirt included in the fee.

Before each race, the professional Gouvernail (which translates from French to literally mean rudder) on board each canoe will give some pointers and tips. Of course, each Gouvernail has different secrets, and the competition between them for bragging rights is intense. So, you don’t need much paddling experience, just a willing spirit and a taste for adventure.

FAQ

No need. We supply paddles and PFD’s for our tours.
We have them for all sizes BUT if you or your children have your own PFD’s, you’re welcome to bring them.
Racers might have their own team colours.
The Kinsman Club will be operating their canteen in the park? They serve hamburgers, hotdogs and great fries for reasonable prices. Proceeds go toward their community projects. There’s also snack food, drinks and desserts.
You are also welcome to BYO snacks or a lunch. We encourage you to stay and enjoy the full schedule of activities.
Alcohol is not permitted in the park.

Beginners are welcome! We will provide instruction in four basic paddle strokes before we depart for any tour.

A bit, but it’s much faster. In a race between a Dragon Boat and a Voyageur canoe, assuming equally trained teams, the canoe would leave the Dragonboat in the dust…

There is no supervised swim area at Lower Reach Park.
